Tickle Bay, Lagos: A review

Last Thursday, S and I met a friend and her daughter at Tickle Bay (Lagos). It’s a new outdoor play area for kids. Situated on Alexander Road, right by St. Saviours School and overlooking the water, it’s a fab location. They had 2 bouncy castles and an assortment of slides and climbing activities. We spent almost 2 hours there and S absolutely loved it. For Lagos standards, I was pretty impressed. Don’t get me wrong, when I say by Lagos standards I mean it to reflect the fact that we didn’t have all of this growing up. As my friend so aptly put it, “we didn’t always have electricity growing up” (but I’ll save how much Lagos has changed for a different post).

Things I liked about Tickle Bay:

– They have a lot of space so S could run freely

– They had quite a variety of activities so keep the kids entertained for awhile

– As they are on the water front, it’s nice and breezy (which makes a big difference in this Nigerian heat).

Things I didn’t like about Tickle Bay:

You pay N2,000 for your child and that includes a juice packet (Ribena). This isn’t really competitive with other play areas we’ve been to in Lagos.

My friend and I had a drink each and when we asked to pay (it was N750), we gave them a N1,000 note and they said “We don’t have change” and that was the end of that?! None of the approximately 8 staff there tried to get change or ask around. Perhaps that’s just another way of saying “Thanks for the tip?”

My friends nanny changed her daughters dirty nappy and when she went to throw it in the bin (in a nappy bag no less), the staff there told her to toss it over the fence into the water! Seriously?!

Although it’s a really nice place to take your kids and I’m sure I’ll take S back while we’re here, it’s these little things that bring their standards down. If you’re expecting us to pay N2,000 (what I pay for indoor play in London), then I expect international standards.

Have you been to Tickle Bay? What did you think?

  1. Admiring the time and energy you put into your website and detailed information you offer.
It’s good to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same unwanted
rehashed information. Excellent read! I’ve bookmarked your
site and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.
